The always thorough and comprehensive Thom Hogan has updated his VERY complete review of the D3 to reflect the new firmware fixes, as well as the realities of the marketplace, such as the upcoming D700. Well worth a read…and even a bookmark on his page. I trust Thom to have an unbiased, objective view on all things Nikon.

“Baby D3″ to be available in late July, same sensor as D3 in D300 body, essentially…looks to come in around $2995 US dollars.

Rumors are popping up all over the Internet today concerning a new lower priced FX camera body, the D700. Apparently a Chinese site leaked pictures of a brochure touting the new camera, purportedly taken with a camera phone by an employee of the printing house that was finishing the brochure for Nikon. While this isn’t strictly a D3 post, found out from Tom Hogarty of Adobe today (while at Photoshop World in Orlando) that the company would replace the ill-fated 1.4 version of Lightroom with a bug-free 1.4.1 version by the end of April…and, according to Tom, they have fixed the Mac OS 10.5 printing with profiles issue (if you have this problem, you know what I’m talking about…)

I got the call from my camera store in Orlando today…they expect my camera to be in next Wednesday! Other stores across the country are reporting receiving their initial shipments of D3′s, with most, if not all, going to preorders. I called and got myself on the preorder list the morning after the product announcement, so I’m not sure what the situation will be for those of you who didn’t get on any lists-who knows, maybe Nikon will be able to produce plenty of them, and everyone who wants and can afford one will be able to buy it. Will post when I get it…
